Lent begins on Wednesday

Committing to this Lenten season is a way of staying in touch with our faith. We will be having a Mass at each Church and ashes (which people will put on their own foreheads in a covid safe way) but the Lenten journey is what matters most. So please think about how we can pray, fast and help the needy this coming Lent.

Here are some suggestions for Lent:

Sycamore Lent Course:
An informal course about the Christian Faith and its relevance for life today. It gives you space to meet and discuss with other people (on Zoom), share ideas and explore your beliefs and think about questions that really matter. Everyone is welcome. Sign up to give our six week course a try on Mondays in Lent from 7.30-9.00pm contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. First Session Monday 22nd Feb.

There will be two weekday Masses during Lent.
One each Wednesday evening at Sacred Heart at 7.00 pm and another at St John’s at 9.30 on Fridays which will be livestreamed for schools. You will be able to attend these without booking online. You will need to register when you come though.
In addition, there will be prayers at St John’s every Friday evening in front of the blessed Sacrament for two hours. You can come at any time between 6 and 8 pm. There will be Benediction at 7.55.

An Idea for Lent from Hayley, a young parishioner:
Lent may feel frustrating this year as many of us are unable to participate in the worthy causes that would normally fill our Lenten journey. Yet, there is a worthy cause we can get involved in from home. By taking up the Vegan for Lent Challenge we can help more causes than we realise. From animal welfare to caring for the vulnerable and protecting the planet.
I have created a resource pack which covers some reflective materials and helps to make the simple switch. If you wish to try a Vegan Lent, email Hayley at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for the resource pack. Thanks!

Men’s Exodus 40
Group will meet online and take on fasting, prayer and almsgiving together. It will be both challenging, spiritual and supportive. Are any men interested? We have 6 so far.
