Sunday Reflection

When we share in the Eucharist, we meet the crucified and risen Lord just as these disciples did in today’s Gospel. We are caught up into the life of the resurrection. If we realised what is going on we too would be ‘speechless with joy’. We can ask for the gift of allowing ourselves to be surprised at the goodness of the God who never deserts us.
Pope Francis, spoke on this Gospel passage saying “We are afraid of joy, and Jesus, by his Resurrection, gives us joy: the joy of being Christians, the joy of following him closely, the joy of taking the road of the beatitudes, the joy of being with him”. He described the fear of joy as “a Christian illness”.
Let us pray with Pope Francis: “that the Lord may open our minds and make us understand that he is a living reality that he has a body, that he is with us and that he accompanies us, let us ask the Lord for the grace not to be afraid of joy”.
