Winter Night Shelter 2018/2019

Last year's winter night shelter received tremendous support across the town and over 90% of those who came to the shelter were eventually found permanent accommodation.

The support from the parish for our Sunday night, including Christmas and New Year's Eve, was outstanding and demonstrated the commitment that you all have to living out the gospel message encapsulated in the story of the Good Samaritan.
This year our commitment begins on Sunday December 2nd and will continue until the end of February, though fortunately we don't get Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve this time!
I have had a productive initial meeting with volunteers from last time to consider any refinements we can make, and now I am asking for more volunteers to come forward to help strengthen our excellent team and share the load.
The weekly format will be as follows; Sunday pm, beds arrive and are set up; 5.30 pm - volunteer greeters and cooking team arrive and prepare to receive visitors and start to prepare the evening meal; 6 pm - centre opens for visitors, greeters make tea and coffee and provide a warm welcome; 7.30 pm (approx.) - meal is served (cooking team leaves once meal is over); 10.00 pm - night shift relieves greeters; Monday 6 am - breakfast team relieves night shift; 7 am (approx.) - breakfast served; 8 am - additional volunteers arrive to clean, clear beds and load onto transport; 9 am at latest - guests depart; 10 am - beds transported to Manna House, the next venue.
